From each list CT crew will select 1 act. These selected acts will be invited to play short set live at CT12. Jury incl.some musicians/fellows from other acts playing at CT12 selects 1 best act. As the prize, CT crew will organize small Middle-EU tour for him.

GERMANY

NFOP

(Berlin, Germany)

No Fear Of Pop is a blog about new music that you can’t afford to miss. Music, meaning the experimental, the folk, the electronic, the psychedelic, the lo-fi, the noise, the dreamy, the fuzzy, the hazy, the surf, the tropical, the quiet, the weird, the ethereal, the garage, the drone, the shoegaze, the twee, or briefly: almost all things pop.

NO FEAR OF POP NOMINATIONS

Ghostandthesong

Lo-fi, „neo-surrealistic pop“ one-man project, surely one of the most interesting projects of the musical outsider scene in town right now. Experimental, playful, unique.

Moon Wheel

Swedish-born, Berlin via Australia resident Olle Holmberg’s project Moon Wheel is seriously appealing, somewhere between classic psychedelia and hypnagogic pop that has stirred up quite a considerable amount of excitement here. Debut tape out via Noisekölln Tapes.

S ND Y P RL RS

Aka Malte C. Jantzen; sad and hopeless, piano-based music, gorgeous songs to cry and hate yourself to. „American Girls” is the most fabulously bitter tune I have heard in recent years.

White Hex

White Hex are Jimi Kritzler and Tara Green who got together in their native Australia, now residing in Berlin. Their sound is oscillating between lush guitars and Tara’s beautifully worn-out voice. The duo likes to call it „tropical goth”.

CROATIA

NO CONCLUSION

(Zagreb, Croatia)

Hi, I’m Ivna from the Zagreb-based music blog No Conclusion. My task was a little different than that of the other nominators – I was asked to nominate some acts from central Europe and perhaps one or two from my own country. Mind you, I have yet to see numbers 3 and 4 live.

NO CONCLUSION NOMINATIONS

Crawander

(Croatia)

Crawander is a project revolving around a group of friends led by natural-born performers Bojan and Žac, well known in Zagreb for their insane and theatrical live shows. Self-described as „cartoon-core“, their music is often all over the place, playing with a variety of genres without ever losing their punk energy and incredibly catchy hooks. Debut full-length dropping before Summer.

ManMachine

(Croatia)

ManMachine is, well, a man and a machine – Goran Uroić and his synth, to be more precise. His intense and emotionally charged live performances are, much like his music, often brought to the verge of absurd, but never quite cross the line. The interplay of frenetic minimal synth anthems and weltschmertz ballads is probably best displayed on his latest free EP „I Hate Human Race“.

Knothole

(Germany)

Knothole is a Berlin-based one-man project focused on live-performance, which makes the songs sound a little rough, but also adds an air of raw energy to his highly danceable music. So far there are only a few live recordings, studio versions will be recorded once he’s collected enough material for a proper release.

Piotr Kurek

(Poland)

And now for something completely different! Piotr Kurek is a Warsaw based composer and musician working in the field of ambient/ experimental/ electronic music. Despite his involvement with various projects on the international experimental music scene, he remains relatively unknown. Kurek’s excellent latest album „Heat“ was released in 2011 by Digitalis LTD.

FETTKAKAO NOMINATIONS

Shirley MacLaines

(Innsbruck, Bachelor Records)

The Shirley MacLaines are a 5 Piece from Innsbruck Austria. Releasing on the Rock N Roll label Bachelor records. the 5 piece was formed 2005, but became more active last year with releasing a 7″ called „Want You To Go“. the Shirleys are the punkiest band around in austria, fresh and wild.

Just Friends And Lovers

(Graz, Wilhlem Show Me The Major Label)

JFAL are emerging from the really cool scene around Wilhelm Show Me The Major Label, a tape label from Graz. their way of playing post punk is very spurring and familiar the same time.

Just Friends And Lovers have released a split a tape with Love Is (from Russia) in 2011 on wilhelm show me the major label, followed by a small summer tour the same year.

Mile Me Deaf

(Vienna, Nuvami /Fettkakao /Siluh Records)

Mile Me Deaf is Wolfgang Möstls Solo Project (he’s in bands such as Sex Jams, Killed By Nine Volt Batteries, Goldsoundz). MMD has released numerous (16) tapes and CD-Rs on the very own Numavi label.

in 2011 the project became more serious with a 7″ on Fettkakao, a cool video and a little tour. in june 2012 MMD will release an album on Siluh (CD) and Fettkakao (Vinyl, Digital)

Crazy Bitch In A Cave

(Vienna, Comfortzone)

Crazy Bitch is one of austrias most interesting electronic acts at the moment. his flamboyant stage presence in performance and styling is not spoiling his music. quite the opposite is true: his fragile voice and precise song arrangements make CBC’s music very unique. CBC has released a CD (particles) and 12″ (on top) maxi on queer/feminist label comfort zone in 2010 and 2011, followed by a european tour in summer 2011.

Squalloscope

(aka Paper Bird, Seayou)

Squalloscope is DIY artists Anna Kohlweis project. Anna has released 2 CDs and a 7″ as Paper Bird. her newest record, out on Seayou in march 2012, called „Soft Invasions“ was released under the moniker Squalloscope.

Squalloscope is a great story teller and her art goes way beyond music: she stitches, sews, does her own videos and nowadays also comics!

SLOVAKIA

EXITAB

(Bratislava, Slovakia)

Filip Drábek, born in 1989 in Bratislava, co-founder of Exitab Label, bassguitarist of The Ills and one half of After Hours Shows: „To be honest, i didn’t really want to nominate just artists from Exitab label, but at this time I feel there is nothing really special happenning outside our label (except Mobius), since we try to release everything, that sounds good to our ears.“

EXITAB NOMINATIONS

Dead Janitor

(Exitab label)

In my opinion, from all Exitab artists, Dead Janitor made the biggest progress in last few months. His last two records, especially Pigeon Superstition from 2012, are simply great. Dark electronic music, subtile, sometimes even industrial, with no specific genre borders. It sounds fresh, but It’s not a seasonal thing.

Dawn To Come

(Exitab label)

Three piece, post-metal/sludge from Eastern Slovakia. Their debut EP from 2012 sounds angry and sentimental in the same time and despite the level of noise has loads of great hidden melodies. Especially live.

Mobius

(no label I guess)

Similiar to Dawn To Come, but even more dark and angry. Sludge duo from Žilina comes from hardcore punk background and is more live, than studio band. Their live sets are mostly based on improvisations.

Aches

(Exitab label)

Jonny Fox was born in Sheffield, but lives in Bratislava, where he perfectly works with the rest of electronic scene here. But his sound is completely different from Stroon or Pjoni. It’s based mostly on soundscapes with whispered vocals, gentle guitar work, shoegazing and loads of glitches.

POLAND

DISTORTED ANIMALS

(Poland)

Pawel Trzcinski runs Distorted Animals. Since 2000 DA has been: an improvising noise outfit, live-electro project, a show, a party and presently is a DIY booking agency. It has travelled the world under these guises and will mutate accordingly to place and times. Once a member in varous bands he presently operates solo under CH-CH-CHING moniker.

DISTORTED ANIMALS NOMINATIONS

Enchanted Hunters

A trio led by Małgorzata Penkalla. On blueprint of dream-pop, dream-folk, americana, lo-fi psychodelia they build their own micro-worlds. Their live-shows are about intimacy and contemplation. Their debut record – „Peoria“ premieres in may.

Kristen

True legends in Polish underground music (whatever that is). A band associated with noise rock, has been following it’s own distinct path for years now. And the past – the older they get – the better music becomes.

The Complainer

The Complainer aka Wojciech Kucharczyk, founder of the legendary label / collective Mik.Musik.! He released over 40 CDs, CD-Rs, tapes, vinyls and mp3s under his own name, retro*sex*galaxy guise, with Mołr Drammaz, Felix Kubin etc. etc. etc. For last few years he has been operating under The Complainer moniker. May be well called east-european R. Stevie Moore but we say after one of his latest reviews: TC makes just perfect underground elektro music.
